2026 prices are The Car Guide's; some dealers list the 2026 GTI at CA$36,895 and the Autobahn at CA$40,895, so confirm with Volkswagen Canada. Prices exclude freight, PDI and fees, which were CA$2,050 plus CA$500 in dealer fees on the 2025 GTI. The GTI is under the luxury tax and green levy thresholds.

GTI engine, transmission and fuel

  • Output: 241 hp at 5,000 rpm and 273 lb-ft at 1,750 rpm. The European GTI makes more, but Volkswagen kept North American output unchanged, citing emissions rules.
  • Transmission: a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic since the 2025 model year. The 6-speed manual ended after 2024.
  • Fuel consumption: The Car Guide lists 7.4 L/100 km highway and 9.9 L/100 km city for the 2026 GTI.

What changed for 2025 and beyond

  • 2025 update: a 12.9-inch touchscreen, physical steering-wheel buttons in place of touch-sensitive controls, a light bar and an illuminated logo. The Autobahn replaced the Performance trim, and the manual was dropped.
  • 2027: Volkswagen Canada confirms the GTI and Golf R continue, but the regular Golf won't be offered.
  • Production: Volkswagen has announced Golf production will return to Puebla, Mexico, from 2027. Which versions move, and when, hasn't been confirmed for Canada.
